Fabrication & Welding Cell Lead - Permanent, West Midlands 

 

EMBS Engineering is delighted to introduce to you a very exciting opportunity on behalf of one of our prestigious clients who are a well thought of, international precision engineering company which boasts over 150 years of experience supporting the Power, Nuclear, Oil & Gas and Construction industries.

Our client has huge contracts with globally recognised giants and currently has not felt the impact of COVID-19 due to the market sectors they operate in. Therefore they are in a unique position to be able to offer a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to an experienced Welder / Fabricator who has previous supervisory / cell leading experience.

Located in Wolverhampton, this business predominantly focuses on bespoke, prototype projects which can range in size and reach up to 13 tonne once fully fabricated. Materials are up to 70mm thick and will require both TIG AND MIG welding.

This is a factory based environment where they have adopted as many health and safety measures as possible to ensure that they are compliant with the social distancing guidelines and can provide safe working conditions. 

As the Fabrication & Welding Cell Lead, you will be in charge of 14 welder / fabricators running across 2 shifts (6-2, 2-10). This is a key position with the manufacturing organisation and the chosen individual will be responsible for planning, execution, performance and continuous improvement of their cell.

This is a varied role where you will be required to perform hands on Welding & Fabrication duties as well as supporting live contract deliverables and on going support to active tenders and business improvement initiatives.

 

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Complies with company EHS rules and promotes a strong EHS culture 

  • Attends daily planning meetings to ensure the plan of the day is clearly understood and communicated 

  • Time management of the cell operatives including shift arrangements, holidays, absences, day-to-day attendance, weekend working, overtime and timesheet submissions. 

  • Manages the performance of the cell operatives, including giving clear work instructions, providing feedback, appraising performance and managing issues. 

  • Routinely reviews the efficiency of tasks completed and utilisation of the cell and puts actions in place to maximise productivity 

  • Reviews and validates tender estimates associated with the cell 

  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement within their team 

  • Ensures the company housekeeping standards are achieved through implementation of 5S techniques and processes 

  • Attends weekly production control meetings to report on the cell performance, including identifying action and recovery plans to improve performance levels.  

  • Delivers team briefs and toolbox talks as required

 

Successful applicants MUST be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong Welding background - ideally apprentice trained or time served

  • Previous Supervisory / Cell Lead / Team Leading or Management experience 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in either Engineering or Nuclear - would consider those with an Aerospace, Defence or Oil & Gas background also

  • Ability to weld in BOTH - TIG & MIG/MAG (Multi Skilled) 

  • Experience in welding hardened materials including; Duplex, Carbon Steel, Nickel Chrome, Aluminium and Monel

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation including weld maps 

  • Record consumables onto weld history sheets

  • Experienced in welding safety-critical components

  • Ability to perform positional welds including above and overhead

  • Ability to perform partial and full penetration welds, butt and fillet welds 

  • Previously worked to high standards - welds will be checked by Dye Pen and Ultrasonic NDT testing

  • Sound understanding of health & safety requirements

  • Basic knowledge of using Microsoft Office 

  • Strong leadership qualities
